How to apply for a refuse bin.

Category Residential Property

Has your refuse bin been stolen or damaged and you need a new one? Do you want an additional bin, but are unsure of how to apply for one?

According to Muzi Mkhwanazi, the spokesperson for Pikitup, bins will only be provided or replaced based on the following:

• Residents who receive a bin for the first time will receive it at no cost.

• A damaged bin will be replaced at no cost to the customer, if the damaged bin is recovered by Pikitup.

• A lost or stolen bin will be replaced at no cost, but only once in a bin’s useful life-cycle. Any further requests for new bins due loss or theft will be for the resident’s account.

• Should you require an additional bin, Pikitup will provide you with one. This will be charged to the resident’s account.

To order a new bin, follow these steps:

• Contact the City of Johannesburg Call Centre on 0860 562 874 or 011 375 5555.

• Residents will then be issued with a reference number. This reference number should be kept in a safe place, as no bin will be issued without it.

• The customer will be contacted by Pikitup to arrange for a convenient time and date for delivery of the new bin.

If you reside in a complex that forms part of a sectional title property, the process differs slightly. For these types of residences, the number of bins provided will be equal to the number of units, but for example, if a complex has 200 units, but only storage space for 130 bins, Pikitup will only provide 130 bins.

• Only the property owner or the managing agent may apply for new or replacement bins.

• Should a tenant apply, he or she will need a letter of authority from the owner or managing agent.

• Pikitup reserves the right to determine the type of service, minimum number of bins and the frequency of services.
