Major road construction on Nic Diedericks

Nic Diedericks Boulevard and Vintage Street are undergoing major construction to improve traffic flow with a new complex and school to be built in Wilgeheuwel.
Curro Holdings in conjunction with Renico Construction are transforming the intersection. Curro Holdings marketing manager Sherlyn Erasmus said, “We will be building a Curro school on Vintage Road, however we have not yet broken,” Erasmus added, “Curro will make the announcement next year with the school being expected to open in 2017.”
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) operations manager for marketing and communications, Bertha Peters-Scheepers commented, “The work that is being carried out from Nic Diedrichs Boulevard/ Vintage Street intersection to Magnum Road forms part of the JRA Infill Roads Master Planning and Wilgeheuwel Precinct Plan.”
Renico has already started construction on-site and has closed the road off to residents only.
The exciting new complex is called Park Royal and will boast 150 units.
“As part of our construction we are upgrading some of the roads connecting to Park Royal,” said Renico planning manager Anscha Kleynhans.
This includes tarring of Magnum Road which connects to Johan and Taylor roads, as well as a traffic circle.
“The large traffic circle that will be placed where Vintage and Sjampanje meet on the bend will help alleviate the heavy traffic currently and the influx of traffic when the project is complete,” added Kleynhans. The traffic circle will allow traffic to flow from both the complex, school, Vintage Street and Sjampanje Street.
Peters-Scheeprs added, “With more new townships developing additional lanes will be constructed on Vintage Road through the bulk service contributions by developers.”
Kleynhans also added that Vintage Street will be widened and have an extra lane added. Curro Holdings is responsible for the upgrade of Nic Diedericks Boulevard.
“The value of work still to be handed over to the JRA in terms of roads and storm water is still to be confirmed by the engineers of the respective townships,” said Peters-Scheeprs.
According to Kleynhans, the construction of the roads already underway, should be completed by early next year. Source- Northside Chronicle
